Why separating foal from mother after 6 months is not a good idea?

When I rode Hope and Destiny to an industrial area with lorries and big machinery driving passed, they are absolutely fantastic. Destiny (foal) got scared of a passing train but she is a fast learner and quite forward going for only 5 months. They are full of surprises...

I truly don't believe in separating a foal from its mother at 6 months. Horses can be up to two years suckling but this doesn't stop them from wanting to learn and become more independent. This foal is only 5 months old but already has the confidence to explore new areas. By using her mother I can lead the foal and tap into her herd instinct to guide her. When the time comes to ride her she will have done a lot of groundwork, which is vital to develop confidence and willingness in the horse.
